Zoom
Troopa for Zoom meetings
Troopa works in Zoom calls without going through Zoom at all. It runs as a desktop app on your Mac, Windows PC or Ubuntu computer, hears the meeting the way you do, and answers a question put to it with “Hi Troopa”; when the Zoom call ends, it writes the notes.
There is no Zoom app to add and no Zoom account to connect, and it works the same whoever hosts and whatever Zoom plan the meeting is on.

At a glance
| Zoom | The Zoom app on a Mac, a Windows PC or Ubuntu |
|---|---|
| Added to Zoom | Nothing: no Marketplace app and no connection to your Zoom account |
| Zoom plan | Any, free or paid, because Troopa hears the call through your computer |
| Host or guest | Either. It works in meetings you host and in ones you were invited to |
| Who said what | The names Zoom shows, read from the Zoom window |
| Notes | Written when the call ends, and kept in Troopa rather than in your Zoom account |
How it works
- STEP 1
Install Troopa, keep Zoom
Put Troopa on the same computer as Zoom, whether a Mac, a Windows PC or Ubuntu, and sign in. Zoom itself stays exactly as it is.
- STEP 2
Start or join in Zoom
Open the meeting in Zoom as you normally do. Once Zoom is using your microphone, Troopa offers to listen in.
- STEP 3
Get the notes after
Ask with “Hi Troopa” whenever you need to. When the Zoom call ends, Troopa writes the notes, with the outcome in one line.
Nothing to add to Zoom
Troopa does not use a Zoom app or your Zoom account. It hears the call the way you do, through your computer: your microphone for you, and your computer’s sound for everybody else. So it works in a meeting you host and in one you were invited to, on any Zoom plan.
Telling the people in the call
Troopa hears the call through your computer, so Zoom shows no prompt and no recording notice for it, and Troopa shows the other people nothing until you present its window. Telling them is up to you, as it would be before recording on your own computer, and in many places the law requires it.
Troopa and Zoom’s own AI
Zoom’s AI is included with most paid Zoom plans and summarises each meeting, on other platforms too. Our comparison was checked against Zoom’s own documentation, and it says where Zoom’s is the better choice.
Questions
Do I need to connect my Zoom account to Troopa?
No. The desktop app asks Zoom for nothing: it hears the call through your computer, whoever hosts it and on any Zoom plan.
Does it work if I am not the host?
Yes. Troopa listens from your computer, so it works in any Zoom call you are in, whoever hosts it. Let the others know you are using it.
Can I use Zoom’s web client instead of the app?
Troopa will listen in, but it recognises the Zoom app and reads the names of speakers from it. With Zoom in a browser, Troopa offers to listen in once the browser has the microphone, and the transcript may be without names.
Is Troopa a replacement for Zoom’s AI Companion?
It does a different job. Zoom’s AI summarises each meeting inside Zoom. Troopa answers questions during the call, reads your earlier meetings on Teams and Meet as well as Zoom, and writes notes that stay in Troopa. Nothing stops you using both in the same call.
